The above is a 270 gallon solar storage tank/drainback pump station combination. Pix show the system in place in the CCE workshop, and at the recent CRES Renewable Energy Conference in Montrose(w scale model in foreground).
The setup for sale can be used to add solar heat to an existing hydronic (boiler based) heating system, or as a standalone solar heating system for an outbuilding or other location. With this system, it is possible to keep such locations at a comfortable working temperature WITHOUT BURNING ANY FUEL! A similar system (same pump station, with a similar sized tank) kept my garage in the 50's over the previous winter (2009) using only two 4' x 8' flat panels. Total cost to heat the garage from Febraury (install date) thru May was $1.45, the cost for the electricity to run the solar collection drainback circulator!
The system pictured here was used for testing in my workshop this past winter. The coldest it got (on a night when it got down to zero outside) was 46 degrees. Usually, the workshop stayed in the mid 50's or more, without any kind of backup heater. In this particular case, I heated the tank with 2- 4' x 8' flat panels, and fed the tank's heat into a small radiant panel in the workshop.
The heating system made it possible to work in the garage even on the coldest winter days. The "MSRP" for this system is $6145. I am selling it for $3750 in order to make way to test more tanks. The system is fully tested and operational, with only scratches on the tank's black plastic exterior to show that it has been used in testing.
